Our editorial assessment of each team's fantasy potential heading into the new EIHL season.
Manchester finished 6th last season and reached the semifinals before being knocked out, and head coach Cameron Critchlow returns with arguably the most settled roster of any Elite League club this summer. The move back to the AO Arena is a huge bonus for the Storm, if they garner some success it can allow them to grow their fanbase exponentially.
The list of returning, extended players is extensive: Brendon Clavelle, Chase Harrison and Bradley Jenion all re-sign on the blue line, while Brandon Cutler, Rais Francis, Brady Gilmour, Stephen Johnson, Joseph Nardi and Loren Ulett are all back up front. Goaltenders Drew DeRidder and Evan Weninger have both extended too.
The new additions are modest but sensible. Swedish forward Anton Karlsson joins after a brief spell with Fife Flyers earlier in the year and a stint back in Sweden, while Kyle Maksimovich and Tim McGauley add further forward depth. Drydn Dow arrives on defence from Dundee Stars.
The most notable departure is Zach Sullivan, a longstanding fixture of the club and a listed fan favourite, whose next destination isn't yet known. Dante Hannoun, Gary Haden and Nicholas Welsh — the latter moving to Cardiff Devils — have also moved on.
With this much of the roster returning intact, Manchester look like a team betting on continuity and internal improvement rather than a summer of change — a reasonable approach after a semifinal run last season.
Forward • Falu IF (Sweden)
Returns to the Elite League after a brief spell with Fife Flyers earlier in the year and a stint back home in Sweden.
Defence • Dundee Stars
An experienced Elite League defenceman who slots straight into a largely settled blue line.
Forward • Herning Blue Fox (Denmark)
Adds further scoring depth to an already well-stocked forward group.
Forward • Eispiraten Crimmitschau (Germany)
A veteran center who brings experience from Germany's second tier into the middle six.
Defence • Unknown
A longstanding club favourite departs with his next destination still unconfirmed.
Defence • Cardiff Devils
Moves to a divisional rival after a strong season that earned him a place on last year's EIHL Second All-Star Team.
Forward • Milano Hockey Club (Italy)
Departs for Italy who play in the Austrian top division after a season with the Storm.
Forward • Dundee Stars
Moves on to a fellow Scottish-adjacent rival.
With so much of the roster returning, Manchester's lines carry more certainty than most clubs at this stage though pre-season will still have the final say.
First Line: Brady Gilmour, Stephen Johnson and Anton Karlsson
Second Line: Brandon Cutler, Joseph Nardi and Kyle Maksimovich
Third Line: Tim McGauley, Loren Ulett and Rais Francis
First Pairing: Brendon Clavelle & Chase Harrison
Second Pairing: Bradley Jenion & Drydn Dow
Netminders: Drew DeRidder, Evan Weninger
DT Star
The likely top-line center on a settled forward group, and a strong bet for consistent fantasy production.
Sleeper Pick
A short spell in the Elite League already this year plus a return to form in Sweden makes him worth a look at a modest price.
Breakout Candidate
Joins a settled group with a real chance to grab a top-six role given the lack of internal competition for spots.
Top Defenceman
The likely top-pairing option on a blue line that returns almost entirely intact.
Starting Netminder
Extended over the summer and likely to carry the heavier share of starts behind a settled defensive group.
DT Verdict
Manchester return almost their entire roster from a semifinal season, adding just enough to nudge the group forward rather than reshape it. Reliable, if unspectacular, fantasy value throughout the lineup given how settled the group is.
Season Prediction
Best Case
Build on last season's semifinal run and push into the final.
Worst Case
A similar mid-table finish with another semifinal exit.
Confidence
Medium
Manchester are betting on continuity after a promising semifinal run, with a settled roster and modest, sensible additions. Whether that's enough to push past last season's ceiling remains the open question.
Editors Note
This preview reflects confirmed signings and departures as of mid-July 2026. Manchester's captain for 2026/27 wasn't listed on available roster sources and should be confirmed before publishing. Projected line combinations will be updated during pre-season.
